International Day of Sign Languages 2022

Today is International Day of Sign Languages and the theme is "Sign Languages Unite Us!" Part of a week-long observance hosted by the World Federation of the Deaf, this is an opportunity to elevate awareness on and support the different national sign languages across the globe (there are over 200!). There is more than one reason people use sign language to communicate. Care Design NY supports individuals with IDD who use sign language as their main form of communication even though they may not be deaf or hard of hearing. Sign language can help individuals who are non-verbal communicate with others--it helps ensure inclusivity.
