Changing the Future Through Artistic Expression
Meet Adam and Rudy! Two Care Design NY Members and Artists
On November 6, the AHRC NYC hosted an art exhibit at Young Israel of Sunnyside in Queens, NY. "Beyond Limitations" was the theme and artists with IDD participated and featured their mixed media works. Rudy and Adam, both CDNY members, participated in the exhibit and shared photos of themselves and their artwork.
Adam’s mother described her son’s excitement at participating in this public event and the passion he has for creating pictures. She stated, "He tells a story in each piece of art. He saw a news report on television recently about how elephants are being hunted for their ivory and he drew a picture and titled it, Leave the Elephants Alone. Adams loves to use lots of color with watercolors and markers." When asked about the Queen’s art exhibit, Adam exclaimed, “I feel like I won, and I had a good time!”
Rudy’s mother also similarly described her son’s pride in exhibiting his creations at the Queens art exhibit. She described how he has loved drawing since he was a little boy. She displays his drawings throughout their home and stated, “He draws the way he sees an object or a person. He likes to use a combination of colors. He attends daily art classes at AHRC. Individuals are allowed to experiment with different artistic mediums. Drawing in sketch books and using crayons and markers to add vivid colors is Rudy’s passion!”
