Care Design NY's VP of Healthcare Management & Quality Officer Discusses the Importance of Vaccines for People with I/DD on WAMC Public Radio

Brittany Miske, RN, AGNP-BC, CDNY's Vice President of Healthcare Management and Quality Officer, recently joined WAMC Northeast Public Radio's Elias Guerria to discuss the importance of getting vaccinated as we head into the 2026 flu season.

For individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD), illnesses like the flu and other respiratory viruses can cause serious health complications. Brittany's discussion focuses on how vaccines can help protect your body as well as those around you.

Brittany also highlights how important it is for healthcare providers to know how to support people with I/DD. For some people, going to the doctor's office can create a lot of sensory overload.

From the bright lights and odd noises to the new environment, the doctor's office is a place where people with I/DD may need more support. She encourages all families, caregivers and self-advocates to contact their doctor's office before their appointment to let them know that you may been additional assistance.
