Individual & Family

Advisory Board (IFAB)

Care Design NY has established an Advisory Board to provide an opportunity for individuals and family members to contribute to the development and operation of Care Design NY.

The IFAB includes representatives from across our service areas, and includes members/self-advocates, parents, siblings, and others who volunteer to participate. The group meets at minimum, once per quarter virtually.

Role of the Advisory Board in Care Design NY

The Advisory Board also supports sub-committees that may be developed as needed. Currently CDNY also has a Legislative Committee that meets several times a month to discuss important legislative issues, developing ways to advocate for the IDD community with government and other stakeholders.

The Advisory Board provides valuable input and has supported organizational leadership in various way. These include:

    • Supporting, educating, and evaluating our workforce
    • Identifying and establishing quality metrics
    • Developing and evaluating systems for communication and information sharing
    • Managing community and school outreach
    • Educating families on important topics
    • Advocating with policymakers
    • Addressing regional issues identified

Why our members join the advisory board:

  • To work collaboratively with Care Design NY staff in setting goals and evaluating progress
  • To work on specific initiatives like staff development and the compilation of comprehensive resources to facilitate the work of Care Managers
  • To foster strong relationships between the organization and stakeholders
  • To increase knowledge and awareness for families in varying stages of their journey
  • To raise collective voices through advocacy, influence, and collaboration with OPWDD and other policy makers
